Animals instinctively "relax" when the sides of their bodies are compressed, for whatever reason. I have been to dairy farms that have these compression devices the cattle saddle on up into and get pressed. They enjoy it for some reason and makes them happy.
Edit: I just realized I was describing a hug. /childhood abandonment
