Admittedly, this signal approach is strange
when it comes to images. But from an engi-
neering standpoint, it does not make a differ-
ence. Audio, photo, video—it all boils down
to signals being processed. Engineers always
see the signal curve behind. When an engineer
talks about high frequencies in an image, he’s
referring to the fine texture details. It’s just a
special tech lingo that quickly sounds like geek
chatter to untrained ears. But engineers are
smart, and we rely on them to supply us with
all the gadgets we need to get creative. Specifi-
cally, they need to build better and stronger
imaging sensor chips. And they measure this
technical dynamic range in decibels to deter-
mine the bit depth that a digital camera is
capable of.
